Growing up in Daytona Beach, Florida, I experienced no shortage of sunshine with the occasional hurricane.
During the summers, I was a Preschool and Elementary school teacher’s aide at my childhood church.
I graduated in 2004 from the University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Magna Cum Laude)
in Elementary Education, which included training in English for Speakers of Other Languages
Upon graduation I taught Elementary level mathematics within the public school system in Jacksonville,
Florida. In 2007, I got married and moved to Daphne, Alabama. I then had an opportunity to stay at home
to raise my now oldest daughter. In 2011, we moved to Colorado, followed by yet another move to Salt Lake
City, Utah, in 2012. I am proud to call Salt Lake City my home. My professional background in education
was attractive to a local college who hired me to evaluate educational transcripts and credentials of
incoming prospective college students. Our Lord then presented me with an opportunity to serve Him as the
Preschool Director at Prince of Peace in 2016. I am currently enrolled in the Early Childhood Director
Synod Certification Program through Martin Luther College. This program compliments my Elementary
Education degree with training specifically designed to meet the spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and physical
needs of our young children (three to eight years old) in a developmentally appropriate manner.
I encourage you today to take a tour of our Preschool to include our Extended Care Program and experience
the love and compassion we share with each student with a strong sense of community.

Hello! My name is Desiree Slocum and I would like to welcome you to our school, Prince of Peace. I have been working with children for many years providing childcare for various Bible Studies and mom's retreats all over the valley. I love every moment the children share with me. I greatly enjoy the arts and music and bringing some of that joy to work–whether it is finding a moment to draw with the children, acquire a new book for the library, or encouraging and participating in imaginative group play. The best part of my day is talking to the children and getting to know them as individuals with all their wonderful personalities.
Like you, I once was looking for a safe, peaceful and positive school in which to enroll my precious child. Other schools were “cold” and expensive. My child was entering kindergarten at the time and after one tour with the school faculty and Pastor, there was no doubt in my mind that I had found a “hidden treasure” with a warm and comfortable sense of community. Prince of Peace represented my Christ-centered core values. My daughter immediately latched on to the warm and friendly staff. She is currently attending Prince of Peace and I cannot imagine being anywhere else. If you are looking for your child to come to school excited, with teachers who provide one-on-one attention, then I invite you to take a tour of our school and discover the hidden treasure for yourself.
